Hawking hi-gain wifi signal booster

Relatively low cost compared to other Boosters. Easy to use. Works with any Three levels of power available. Increases BOTH transmitting power and receiver sensitivity. Filters enhance the ability of the receiver to pick up weak signals. Cons: This is not really a con, just an observation that the supplied cable connects to a reverse SMA jack.

They do sell an adapter for other style connectors, however. All minor issues and do not affect the useability rating in my opinion. Overall Review: This thing works as advertised. It boosts the transmitted power and also increases receiver sensitivity. You will get a boost in receiver sensitivity at ALL settings.

The mw setting optimizes speed, signal level, and quality. Experiment to find which setting works best for you. Consider changing where the unit is placed to get best over-all coverage. The supplied antenna is OK, but a higher gain or directional antenna would help some situations.

Wired access in the rooms was not an option due to the cost, so we first purchased an antenna from DLink to put on our wireless AP's.

That didn't really get the job done as we have 4 acre property. My friend came across this item on Newegg, and we decided to give it a shot.

Lo and behold, at mW, this thing is powering the city! Almost all the rooms now has a signal. I higly recomment this product, and will let other BW owners know about his little booster.

Cons: annoying high pitched whine -- easily fixed would have been nice to ahve a longer extension cable. Overall Review: grwat product -- really extends the range of g networks. High pitched noise is very annoying -- but i just wrapped 2 inch thick foam around it and duct taped the whole thing and voila no noise doesn't appear to get hpot enough to be an issue -- but i am checking specs as we write. Pros: Works as advertised. Set to middle power setting and range extended beautifully.

Constant high pitch whine. Just plug the HSB1 into the router's antenna connector, power it up, and set the amplifier to either mW, mW, or mW. It took us less than a minute to set up. While it works with dual-antenna routers regardless of which antenna you choose, you will need a router or an access point with removable antennas. Open Box: Newegg only guarantees your receipt of the Open Box product with the purchase of this item.

In extensive tests using NetIQ's Chariot benchmark with and without the antenna booster, the HSB1 was able to extend the range of our router by 25 feet. Starting at about 75 feet, it started to improve data rates, and at feet it boosted throughput from a measly 4Mbps to At a range of feet, the HSB1 raised the signal by 15dB in our informal tests, which is a bit short of the 20dB claim.

It also increased the signal-to-noise ratio from a marginal 5dB to a strong 21dB and changed the indicated signal level from Low to Very Good. Using three wireless routers from Hawking, Linksys, and Compex along with a variety of clients, we ran the booster for a week without a problem. Our throughput tests measure the transfer speed of a file that a user might send across the network.

This is known as the payload throughput and does not include packet errors and other data that might be transferred over a network.
